Harvey Milk: The Opera by Stewart Wallace and Michael Korie
A semi-staged concert performance of Wallace and Korie's groundbreaking opera, directed by Lukey and performed at the St Kilda Town Hall in association with the Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Chorus, and at the Sydney Town Hall in association with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir.
“Harvey Milk – the Opera was an example of how this medium can still tell important stories, wrestle with contemporary issues and deliver them to a modern audience.” Limelight
“I imagine few expected the depth of performance achieved by Left Bauer Productions' advertised concert performance of the Australian premiere of American composer Stewart Wallace’s opera… Powerfully voiced soloists soared over the complex rhythmic lines, living their respective roles.” Aussie Theatre
“There is no doubt that the quality of the music and the performance made this contribution to the Midsumma Festival very worthwhile.” Classic Melbourne
Left Bauer is a rising theatre company and I have loved their other two shows this year Playing Rock Hudson and Masterclass. To me this production is a clear statement of intent. Fill an important building with an important story. Sydney Arts Guide
